For over two decades, Kier served as Senior Editor at The Communication Initiative (The CI) and Editor of its flagship e-magazine, The Drum Beat. Until The CI's closure in March 2025 due to funding cuts, Kier led editorial strategy and wrote summaries and papers on issues such as global health, vaccine communication, gender equity, social norms, and community engagement.
With a strong foundation in the humanities and social sciences, Kier's editorial work has also focused on the fields of ethics and philosophy. Kier received a bachelor's degree in ethics from Smith College (Phi Beta Kappa; Magna Cum Laude) and a master's degree in philosophy from Georgetown University (Woodrow Wilson-Johnson & Johnson Dissertation Grant in Women's Health). She is actively engaged in volunteer work and board service related to bioethics and religion.
